The Lemosho Route is the crown jewel of Kilimanjaro treks — beautiful, less crowded, and with excellent acclimatization. This 8-day version offers a slow, rewarding pace that maximizes your summit chances while treating you to pristine rainforest, sweeping plateaus, dramatic ridges, and glacier views.

Your Trek Day Plan
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), meet your Serengeti Sphere Safaris driver and transfer to your lodge in Moshi/Arusha. Relax with a pool, Wi-Fi, and cozy rooms. In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a full briefing and final gear check.

Day 2 — Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, meet your guide and crew. Drive to Londorossi Gate (3–4 hours) for registration and permits, then continue by vehicle to the Lemosho trailhead. Begin your trek through untouched rainforest alive with birds and colobus monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) where tents and dinner await.

Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)
Elevation: 2,250 m to 2,820 m
Day 3 — Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Continue through the final rainforest zone into heath and moorland. Climb steadily up a ridge with panoramic views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak if clear. Enjoy lunch on the way and arrive at Shira 1 Camp by afternoon.

Elevation: 2,820 m to 3,500 m
Day 4 — Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Trek east across the rolling Shira Plateau, an open high-altitude desert with wide views of Kibo’s glaciers and Mount Meru behind you. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp by early afternoon, rest and take an optional short acclimatization walk.

Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)
Elevation: 3,500 m to 3,850 m
Day 5 — Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
A key acclimatization day. Hike steadily to Lava Tower (4,630 m) where you’ll rest and have lunch. Then descend into the Barranco Valley, home to giant senecio plants and dramatic cliffs. Barranco Camp sits at the base of the impressive Barranco Wall, tomorrow’s first challenge.

Distance: 12 km (7.4 miles)
Elevation: 3,850 m up to 4,630 m, then down to 3,960 m
Day 6 — Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Start early to climb the Barranco Wall — an exhilarating scramble with stunning views from the top. Continue through alpine valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp. Arrive in time for lunch and rest, then take an optional acclimatization hike higher and back down.

Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Elevation: 3,960 m to 4,035 m
Day 7 — Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, trek steadily up through barren alpine desert. Reach Barafu Camp by midday for lunch and final summit preparations. Rest, hydrate, and get an early dinner before turning in early for the midnight summit climb.

Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
Elevation: 4,035 m to 4,640 m
Day 8 — Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Wake just after midnight for tea and snacks, then begin the long, steady ascent across scree slopes to Stella Point (5,756 m). Witness a stunning sunrise, then push on along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak — the roof of Africa! Celebrate your success, then descend back to Barafu for a short rest and continue down to Mweka Camp for your final overnight on the mountain.
Trekking Time: 8–12 hours
Distance: 15 km (9.3 miles)
Elevation: 4,640 m to 5,895 m, then down to 3,100 m
Day 9 — Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Return to Hotel
After breakfast, complete your final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate with your team, collect your certificate, and return to your hotel for a warm shower and well-deserved rest.

Elevation: 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Day 10 — Departure
Relax at the hotel until your airport transfer. Check-out is at 11:00 AM. Late check-out can be arranged if needed.
