Saadani National Park
Overview
Saadani National Park is Tanzania’s only wildlife sanctuary bordering the ocean, offering a rare blend of bush and beach safari in one destination. Located between Bagamoyo and Pangani, and just north of Dar es Salaam, it spans over 1,100 square kilometers. It is the only place in East Africa where visitors can observe wildlife while enjoying views of the Indian Ocean’s white sand beaches.
Wildlife & Scenery
Saadani is home to a moderate concentration of wildlife, but its unique coastal setting makes it a fantastic location for relaxed and scenic safaris. You may encounter:
Elephants, lions, buffalos, and giraffes in the savannah and coastal thickets.
Warthogs, waterbucks, reedbucks, and rare Roosevelt’s sable antelope.
Numerous hippos and crocodiles in the Wami River.
Over 250 bird species, including kingfishers, flamingos, and fish eagles.
The Wami River estuary, mangroves, coastal forests, and long sandy beaches—some of which serve as nesting grounds for green turtles—add to the park’s diversity.
