Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Overview
Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a biodiversity hotspot and part of the Eastern Arc Mountains—often referred to as the “Galápagos of Africa”. Unlike traditional savannah parks, Udzungwa offers a unique rainforest trekking experience, teeming with endemic flora and fauna, towering waterfalls, and lush tropical landscapes. It’s a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers.
Wildlife & Scenery
The park is known for its incredible ecological diversity, housing more than:
400 bird species, including the rare Udzungwa forest partridge.
2500 plant species, with many endemic to the park.
11 primate species, including the endemic Sanje crested mangabey and Iringa red colobus.
There are no roads inside the park, so the focus is on foot safaris. Trails lead through thick montane forests, across rivers and valleys, and up to breathtaking viewpoints.
